Cooking with Melissa

When you meet Melissa you will feel like you are in Umbria, cooking in Melissa’s family kitchen as she regales you with stories of her Nonna.    Melissa's sense of humour and energy are contagious and you will leave your culinary adventure feeling content and inspired to share these recipes with your family and friends.

In person experiences are a 3 hour culinary adventure in the Host's home.  Includes a light snack upon arrival, approximately 1.5 hours of "in the kitchen" time, learning the recipes and participating in making the dishes and a full dinner shared together.  All recipes are emailed to you before your class.

All experiences are informal, warm and welcoming.  IMK experiences are suitable for families.

Melissa offers a  complimentary beverage upon arrival and you are welcome to bring your own wine to Melissa's culinary adventures.  For insurance purposes we ask that you only bring one bottle per couple or a demi bottle per person.

Location: Melissa’s Kitchen is on historic Columbia Street in New Westminster, a short 40 minute skytrain ride from the heart of Vancouver.  Exact location will be emailed to you.

Ricotta Gnocchi al sugo di pomodoro (simple tomato sauce)
Ricotta Gnocchi is a specialty of Melissa's. Although potato gnocchi is typical of Umbria, this recipe (made with no potatoes) is one of Melissa's favourites and is easy to pull together with few ingredients.

Pollo in porchetta
Roasted chicken marinated in an Umbrian style 'battuto' (marinade) of pancetta, sage, parsley and rosemary.

Fennel Salad
A simple a tasty salad that is very versatile and great for digestion.

Class Involvement: You are welcome to get hands-on and help cook the meal, or feel free to take a more relaxed approach and watch and learn.

Classes require a minimum of 4 registrations to run.

Please note we do not offer refunds, but we do provide a full credit if you need to cancel.

If you cancel two weeks before your cooking class you will receive a full credit, which you can apply to another cooking class. After that, for in-person classes you may send someone else in your place (we ask you to notify us in advance if you're doing this). For online cooking classes you are welcome to transfer your spot to someone else. In the rare event that an instructor needs to cancel last minute, guests will receive a full refund. We do not otherwise offer refunds.

How It Works

Sign Up

Sign up for your cooking class. On-line: price is by device so feel free to invite friends to join you in your kitchen or make it a family event.

All in-person classes are suitable for families. Max 6 spots, book all 6 and have your own private event.

Cooking Instructions

All cooking classes include tested recipes.

On-line: After registration you’ll receive an email with your shopping list, equipment list and zoom info.

In-Person: After registration you will receive the recipes and the address for your Host's home. 

Duration

Online Cooking Classes are 1.5 hours in duration, and are co-hosted with In My Kitchen founder Paula Mohammed, on zoom.

In-Person Cooking Classes are 3 hours long about 1.5-2 hours in the kitchen 1-1.5 hours sitting down and sharing the meal together.
